Description

Cast iron filter presses are primarily used in harsh industrial environments that demand high strength, corrosion resistance, high-temperature tolerance, and long-term stable operation. They are typically not the first choice for processing ordinary materials but serve as critical equipment in specific working conditions where alternatives are inadequate.

Product Features

  • Exceptional Mechanical Strength and Pressure Resistance: Cast iron components are extremely robust, capable of withstanding high working pressures (typically up to 25-30 bar or even higher). This is essential for dewatering dense, difficult-to-filter materials that require high pressure.
  • Excellent Corrosion Resistance: Compared to ordinary carbon steel, cast iron (especially high-quality grey cast iron or ductile iron) offers superior resistance to many chemicals, particularly alkaline substances and certain salts, resulting in a longer service life.
  • Good Heat Resistance: Cast iron can endure relatively high temperatures, making it suitable for processes requiring high-temperature drying of filter cakes (e.g., using high-temperature steam or hot air).
  • High Wear Resistance: For materials containing hard, sharp particles, cast iron filter plates are more resistant to wear and scratching than polymer polypropylene (PP) filter plates.
  • Stable Structure, Resistant to Deformation: Under long-term high-pressure and thermal cycling conditions, cast iron filter plates maintain their shape stability, ensuring sealing performance and preventing slurry leakage

Main Application Scenarios and Suitable Materials

1.Chemical Industry

This is the most traditional application field for cast iron filter presses. Many materials in chemical production are highly corrosive or require high-temperature filtration.

Typical Materials:

  • Strong Alkalis: Such as sodium hydroxide (caustic soda), calcium hydroxide, etc. Alkaline substances are highly corrosive to PP filter plates, but cast iron offers excellent resistance.
  • Salts: Such as sodium chloride, sodium sulfate, phosphates, etc. These materials may form hard, sharp particles during crystallization, combining corrosion and abrasiveness.
  • Dyes and Pigments: Such as titanium dioxide, iron red, various organic and inorganic pigments. These materials feature fine, viscous particles and high value, requiring high-pressure dewatering for thorough recovery.
  • Intermediates and Pesticides: Many chemical intermediates and pesticide products generate corrosive filter residues during production.
  • High-Temperature Processes: Chemical products requiring steam injection for filter cake heating and drying.

2.Metallurgical and Mining Industry

Mineral processing and smelting processes generate large amounts of tailings, mineral powders, and metal slags, which are typically highly abrasive.

Typical Materials:

  • Metal Tailings: Such as iron tailings, copper tailings, lead-zinc tailings, etc. Tailings particles are hard and cause significant wear to equipment.
  • Concentrate Dewatering: Metal concentrates (e.g., copper concentrate, zinc concentrate) after flotation require efficient dewatering for transportation and smelting.
  • Smelting Slags: Such as red mud (waste residue from alumina plants), steel slag, etc. These materials may have extremely high pH values (red mud is highly alkaline) and contain hard particles.
  • Coal Powder: Dewatering of coal water slurry, coal slime from coal washing plants, etc., involving large processing volumes and harsh environments.

3.Environmental Protection Industry (Industrial Wastewater Treatment)

Sludge from industrial wastewater treatment has complex compositions and is often more challenging than municipal sludge.

Typical Materials:

  • Hazardous Industrial Sludge: Sludge from electroplating, electronics, surface treatment, and other industries, often containing heavy metals, strong acids, strong alkalis, and other corrosive components.
  • Sludge Containing Chemicals: Sludge from petroleum chemical, pesticide, pharmaceutical, and other industries, which may contain solvents and residual chemicals.
  • High-Hardness Sludge: Sludge with high inorganic content and hard particles from certain industries.

4.Other Industries

  • Ceramics and Building Materials Industry: Used for processing highly abrasive materials such as kaolin, ceramic glazes, and quartz sand.
  • Food Industry (Specific Segments): Examples include glutamic acid fermentation broth in monosodium glutamate production and calcium citrate. Although stainless steel is predominantly preferred for food-grade applications, cast iron filter presses are also utilized in certain segments where hygiene requirements are not extremely stringent and high pressure is necessary.
