Guide To Horizontal Leaf Filter: Design, Operation, And Applications

2025-08-05 16:33:36

Filtration Chamber (Shell)

  • Designed as a horizontal cylindrical structure, made of stainless steel or carbon steel (with anti-corrosion lining).
  • Both ends of the shell are equipped with quick-open flanges or hydraulic locking devices for easy installation, removal, and cleaning of filter leaves.

Filter Leaf Assembly

  • Consists of multiple vertically or horizontally arranged filter leaves, with filter cloth covering the surface.
  • The filter leaves have a hollow internal structure connected to a liquid collection pipe for filtrate discharge.

Pressurization System

  • The filtration chamber is pressurized via a feed pump or compressed air to force liquid through the filter leaves, while solids are retained to form a filter cake.

Discharge System

  • The filter cake is detached from the filter leaves using vibration devices, reverse air blowing, or scrapers, and discharged through the bottom outlet.

Control System

  • Automated models feature PLC control to regulate pressure, discharge cycles, and cleaning processes.

Guide To Horizontal Leaf Filter Design, Operation, And Applications

Working Principle of the horizontal pressure leaf filter

  1. Feed Pressurization: The slurry is pumped into the sealed filtration chamber, where liquid passes through the filter leaves under pressure, and solids are retained on the surface.
  2. Filter Cake Formation: Solids accumulate on the filter leaves, forming a cake. As resistance increases, pressure is maintained to ensure flow continuity.
  3. Filtrate Collection: The filtered liquid is collected through internal channels in the filter leaves and discharged via the collection pipe.
  4. Cake Discharge and Cleaning:
  • Dry Discharge: The filter cake is dislodged using compressed air.
  • Wet Discharge: Water rinsing is applied for sticky materials.
  1. Cyclic Operation: After discharge, the system proceeds to the next filtration cycle.
