Due to the high viscosity of gelatin solutions and their sensitivity to temperature changes, the filtration process must be meticulously engineered to prevent premature crystallization, ensure consistent throughput, and achieve the “brilliant” optical clarity required for high-grade products.

The Engineering Mechanics of Gelatin Clarification

Successful gelatin filtration is defined by three stages: bulk removal of impurities, decolorization, and final polishing. Because gelatin sets into a gel as it cools, the primary engineering challenge is maintaining an isothermal environment throughout the filtration circuit.

1. Thermal Jacketing: Preventing Crystallization

All Yuwei gelatin filtration systems are engineered with Thermal Jacketing (Steam/Hot Water). By circulating heating media through the internal filter plates or the vessel shell, we maintain a consistent operating temperature (typically 50°C – 70°C). This prevents the gelatin from thickening, significantly reducing differential pressure (ΔP) and extending the life of your filter media.

2. Technology Selection by Process Stage

  • Primary Clarification: We deploy heavy-duty SS Plate and Frame Filters with high-flow filter cloths. This stage captures the bulk of the unrefined solids, preparing the gelatin for downstream fine filtration.
  • Decolorization & Polishing: For achieving the “optical brilliance” required by top-tier food and pharma brands, we utilize Diatomaceous Earth (D.E.) Pressure Leaf Filters. The D.E. pre-coat creates an incredibly fine porous matrix that traps sub-micron haze, tannins, and pigment molecules that would otherwise pass through standard filter cloth.
  • Sterile Final Polishing: For pharma-grade gelatin, we incorporate Multi-Round Cartridge Housings equipped with absolute-rated (0.2μm – 0.45μm) pleated cartridges to guarantee a sterile, pathogen-free final product.

3. Sanitary & CIP Excellence

In the gelatin industry, hygiene is non-negotiable. Our equipment is manufactured from 316L Stainless Steel with mirror-polished surfaces (Ra ≤ 0.4μm). The crevice-free design allows for rapid Clean-In-Place (CIP) cycles using hot water and chemical sanitizers, preventing microbial buildup and ensuring batch-to-batch product integrity.
